The energetic principles of western herbalism aren’t clearly laid out, as they are in ayurvedic or traditional Chinese medicine, but do exist and are clearly implied in the terms we use to describe the traditional properties
and actions of herbs. Yes, it’s easy to assume that something “foundational” implies that it’s “beginner level”, but really this term conveys that these principles are what everything we do as herbalists builds upon and comes back to. We’ll look at the ways energetic patterns present in different systems in the body and go deeper into therapeutics than “use drying herbs for damp conditions”, using actions, system affinity and specific indications to more effectively match person with plant(s). In addition to case studies and herb tasting, a fair bit of this material will be conveyed through the use of donuts and garden shears and balloons and homemade
